How Does Sedation Dentistry Work?
FAQs About Sedation Dentistry
- Is sedation dentistry safe?Yes, sedation dentistry is safe. Dr. Goldtrap will carefully analyze your overall health and medical history before recommending any form of sedation.
During your treatment, Dr. Goldtrap and his team monitor you closely to ensure a safe and comfortable procedure. We customize the dosage of nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or IV sedation to your individual needs. Even IV sedation is quickly reversible if necessary.
- How fast does sedation work?It may take 30 to 45 minutes before you begin to feel the effects of oral sedation. For those whose dental anxiety is so severe that just getting themselves to come through our office door is a challenge, oral sedation can be taken at home before your visit. You’ll feel relaxed even before you get to our office! Of course, you would need to make arrangements to have someone else drive you to your appointment and take you home.
IV sedation is administered directly into the bloodstream, so the effects are almost instantaneous. This type of sedation is used only under close professional supervision. You will be conscious after your treatment, but because it takes the medication a few hours to completely leave the system, you will need someone to drive you home.
- Am I a Good Candidate For Sedation Dentistry?Sedation dentistry is perfect for you if you want to say “goodbye” to:
- Needles
- Not being in control
- Excessive appointments
- Overall stress and discomfort
