There was a time when almost all major cosmetic and restorative dental procedures would require multiple office visits and temporary replacements while you waited on the lab to produce the permanent crown or veneer. Modern dental technology has allowed us to skip this middle step and help you leave the office with the beautiful results you really want.
CEREC Tools and Technology
CEREC same-day crown technology provides powerful tools and techniques that allow us to create same-day crowns. It takes a fair amount of training and specialization to use these tools to their greatest affect, but the results, we found, are worth it.
This process allows you to receive custom-milled ceramic crowns, inlays, and other inlays in just a single visit to the office. The results are restorations that look natural and are very durable.
Basically, it works in three simple steps. An intraoral camera takes the necessary images, then we use the software to design the inlay or crown, and, finally, the designs are sent to the milling machine which will actually create the crown.
In other words, this lets us take care of every step while you’re here in the office. We use a special camera to take the digital impressions and then create a virtual model of the tooth, which will then be sent to the CEREC machine to mill the tooth-colored ceramic material.
It usually only takes less than 15 minutes for the crown or inlay to finish, and we can attach it and have you smiling and showing off your new teeth in a single visit.
The Importance of Precise Imaging
Our 3D imaging camera works by scanning your entire mouth and using CAD/CAM technology to replicate the exact contours of your teeth. This is an extremely important part of the process, because getting it right the first time will ensure a long life of the crown.
This kind of imaging gives us the ability to create extremely accurate models with virtually no distortion – something that is really hard to do with traditional impressions (not to mention this is far more comfortable for most patients than traditional impressions).
The reason this is so important is that after any crown is fixed in your mouth, there is usually a gap between it and the tooth. This is referred to as the margin, and it’s usually so tiny that it can only be measured in microns. Unfortunately, no matter how tiny a micron is, bacteria is still smaller, so if the margin is too big, it creates an opportunity for unwanted visitors to move in.
Crowns made from digital impressions have a much smaller margin than those created traditionally, which means they do a much better job of keeping bacteria out and staying healthy.
Don’t Wait for a Better Smile
Your smile deserves to be seen. You don’t need to hide it away while you’re waiting for the lab to come through for you.
We want to help you achieve the perfect smile. We want you to laugh more and we want you to have a healthy mouth, and creating the custom crowns and inlays in our office gives us the opportunity to take care of your needs in a single visit.
This means you don’t have to keep coming in for several successive appointments and you don’t have to wait to show off that beautiful smile.
