Dental crowns are a common dental procedure in the office. While it is sometimes considered a cosmetic dental decision, sometimes it is to help with other problems. The crown is like a cap that covers the tooth to fix or strengthen it. While there are many different reasons people get a crown put on, the most common problems that we recommend them for include:
- Strengthen weak tooth from decay, breakage, or cracks
- Cover a dental implant
- Making cosmetic modifications
- Restore a tooth that is worn down
- Holding a dental bridge in place
While crowns are a very useful tool for us, the biggest complaint we would get from customers is that the process takes more than one appointment. Now we use same day crowns.
What Is a Same Day Crown?
A same day crown is a more convenient way to have a crown put on your teeth. We use cutting edge technology called CEREC 3D. It allows us to create crowns in our office rather than sending molds to a dental lab. Traditionally, we would send molds of your tooth to an offsite dental lab and they would send us a permanent crown within a week or two. Now, we have the technology in our office to create them on site.
How Does It Work?
When you come in to get your tooth prepped for a crown, we take an impression with a wireless camera. Our program allows us to take a seamless impression digitally, rather than with traditional impression material that is uncomfortable and messy. After we have taken the pictures and measurements, a 3D model is created and the computer program designs your new crown.
From this model, our staff uploads the image to a specialized program. Our on-site milling machine then uses it to chisel your permanent crown form a block of ceramic material. The entire chiseling process takes only a few minutes, meaning you don’t have to come back after we have gotten the crown mailed to us. Instead, Dr. Rogge can use it in the same appointment, cutting out the temporary crown.
What is the Quality of the Crown?
Temporary crowns have been known for their condition. Being only temporary, the wearer must carefully watch what and how they eat or it might come off. The crowns we create during your visit now does not require the same hesitant care. Because they are made from high-quality ceramic, just like traditional permanent crowns, it is ready to go on with your life as soon as you are. We stand behind these products and know you will be satisfied with the results.
It takes long enough to do any work surrounding a crown, we don’t want to keep pulling you away from your life. This form of in-office crown chiseling is meant to help save time for everyone, but it also saves you some pain. If you have live roots under a temporary crown, it hurts to remove it and place a permanent one in its place. Plus, this avoids any hassle if your temporary crown comes off. If you would like to try this dental service, please feel free to make an appointment.
